college and career guidance (72 × 32 in)

TPCS is proud to offer college and career planning services to all of our upper school students. Prior to the start of each year, an academic advisor will meet with your family to discuss your student’s short-term and long-term goals and to select the following year’s courses. Your advisor will develop a close relationship with your student to assist them in identifying their strengths and spiritual gifts. They will meet with your student at various times throughout the year to offer encouragement, track their progress, and update their Naviance account.

This advisor will be here during your junior and senior years to guide you through the process of preparing for life after high school. This is a valuable resource regardless of whether your student plans to attend college, trade school, enlist in the military, or immediately enter the workforce. TPCS will host regular parent/ student meetings, workshops, and college fairs, and assist in the process of applying for college admission, scholarships, and financial aid.

All upper school students are required to take 3 college and career planning courses as part of their core subjects. We believe these classes are critical as we prepare and equip our students to reach their highest individual potential and impact the world for Christ.

Life Calling

This course focuses on students developing an understanding of the concept of life calling and the discove.ry of one’s God-given design as a basis for this calling. Students are led to understand how work and individual leadership is best understood from this life calling perspective. Students will evaluate their foundational values, unique design and personal mission as well as examine each component in an in-depth, integrated portfolio.

Biblical Personal Finance

Rooted in a biblical worldview, the Biblical Personal Finance Curriculum is a principle-driven personal finance course that teaches the roles, responsibilities, and rewards of financial stewardship as defined by scripture. We teach the five transcendent financial decision-making principles found in the Bible and how money is intertwined with biblical teachings on contentment, generosity, self-control, provision, gratitude, and freedom.

College/Career Planning

Students obtain a deeper understanding of what it means to be college-ready.  We discuss the importance of high school performance, how to prepare for testing, the types of colleges and degrees, and careers they may choose to pursue.

Students come away from this section understanding how smart preparation and skill development in high school can lead to expansive career opportunities after they have completed their education and are ready for the working world.

Upon entering the Upper School, each student will create a Naviance account. Naviance is a comprehensive online tool that helps assess and develop the essential competencies students need to be successful after high school.

This unique tool allows your student to explore career paths, research and compare colleges to determine best fit, apply for scholarships, and more. Students update their Naviance account regularly throughout the year as they store their completed courses and involvement in extracurricular activities, school clubs, and service projects. This helps to provide a snapshot view of their graduation path so at any time they can see where they are currently and where they are striving to be.

We want the college application process to be as easy as possible for our students and their families. That's why we assist all of our students in setting up an account on Common App.

Here, they can store all of their important information such as their high school transcript, application essays, recommendations, and more. Then, they can apply to multiple universities at once with the simple click of a button. This tool allows our students, parents, and our guidance department to all work together ensuring a more efficient and enjoyable experience for all.
