Delaney Nelson
What you’ve been up to since graduation:
After graduating from Traders Point in 2016, I earned a bachelor's degree in animation with a focus of illustration from Huntington University in 2020. I met my husband, Zach, my freshman year at Huntington and married him in 2019. We moved to Colorado for a year where I worked as a graphic design resident at our church. We then moved to Austin, Texas for 3 years. There I worked as an administrative assistant for a real estate team, started my own art business, Delaney Nelson Design, and adopted our french bulldog, Bagel. My small art business started with digital home portraits and has since evolved into live watercolor painting at weddings and events. We moved back to Indianapolis in 2024 and I was hired on as the Upper School Principal's Administrative Assistant at Traders Point! It's been extremely full circle being back at TPCS and working alongside my former math teacher, volleyball coach, and mentor, Alex Roell and so many other familiar faces. Since being on staff, I've coached junior high girls and varsity boys volleyball, led a mentor group, and even spent some time as interim Athletic Director.
Any recent accomplishments or milestones you’re proud of:
I'm really excited about the recent success of Delaney Nelson Design. This is just my 2nd full year of being a live watercolor guest portrait artist and I've painted at more than 30 events all over the US. This year I was even flown out to Cape Cod for a destination wedding and featured in Yelp Indy! Also! We bought a house! After moving almost every year of our marriage, Zach and I are proud homeowners in Indianapolis.
How your time at TPCS prepared or influenced you in your journey:
My time at Traders Point has heavily influenced my journey as it also turned out to be the destination! But even before returning to the school, the relationships I built here are still some of the strongest bonds today. The way I was loved and encouraged through my entire time at TPCS has influenced the way I strive to love and encourage others. My faith grew stronger each year and I'm so grateful for the community and opportunities that made that possible.
A favorite memory or takeaway from your TPCS years:
Getting baptized in Nicaragua by Mr. Cook with several of my classmates. Playing varsity volleyball with my best friend, Elle, and sister, Madison. Winning 3 years of Powderpuff Football during Homecoming week. Mentor group with Mrs. Malott.
