At Traders Point Christian Schools, learning isn’t confined to the walls of a classroom.

Our Outdoor Education Program gives students up through middle school the opportunity to step outside, explore God’s creation, and experience hands-on learning in a way that brings academics to life.

Whether they’re studying ecosystems, observing wildlife, or engaging in team-building challenges, students gain a deeper understanding of the world around them—all while developing a sense of wonder, curiosity, and appreciation for God’s design. This unique program not only enhances their education but also provides valuable time in an outdoor learning environment, where fresh air and movement inspire creativity, collaboration, and discovery.

With experiences that blend science, adventure, and biblical principles, our Outdoor Education Program is more than just an academic bonus—it’s an opportunity for students to see, touch, and engage with learning in a way that sticks with them for a lifetime.

What Students Experience in Outdoor Education

Time Outside with Purpose

Unlike most schools where outdoor time is limited to recess, students at TPCS regularly engage in structured, hands-on learning experiences outdoors. With thousands of hours spent outside each semester, students gain more than just fresh air—they gain meaningful connection to their studies, peers, and the world around them.

A Biblical Lens on Creation

Outdoor Education at TPCS is deeply rooted in faith. Students don’t just learn about nature—they explore it as God's creation. From studying animal life cycles to understanding environmental stewardship, each lesson is an opportunity to glorify God and see His handiwork up close.

Hands-On, Real-World Application

Students don’t just read about nature—they experience it. From raising pollinators to creating seed paper that helps them grow flowers for bees and butterflies, kids have tangible outcomes tied to real-world learning. These experiences help deepen understanding, memory, and joy.

Cross-Curricular, Whole-Child Learning

This is more than a science class. Outdoor Education weaves together concepts from math, social studies, health, geography, language arts, and theology. Whether students are studying ticks or raising butterflies, they explore the interconnectedness of the world through an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach.

Deepening Faith in Unique Ways

Nature becomes the classroom—and a new context for spiritual growth. As students explore creation, they’re continually reminded of God as the Creator and Sustainer. These outdoor moments offer a fresh, meaningful way to grow in faith and understand biblical truths.

Growing Stewardship and Responsibility

From learning to care for living creatures to participating in recycling and restoration efforts, students gain a sense of responsibility for the world God entrusted to us. This mindset of stewardship goes beyond the classroom and often impacts students' families and daily habits.

A Program Like No Other

Few Christian schools offer a nature-based program as extensive and integrated as the one at TPCS. With over 50 acres of prairie, forest, and river right on campus, our students have access to nature every day, in every season. It’s not just a class—it’s a cornerstone of how we teach, worship, and grow.
