Join us in raising up a generation of students who make an impact in the world for Christ.
At Traders Point Christian Schools, we believe that creativity is a gift from God. One meant to be explored, developed, and shared.
Our Fine Arts Program gives students the opportunity to express themselves through art, music, theater, and worship arts, providing a rich and dynamic creative experience from early childhood through high school.
From foundational art and music classes to band, choir, worship arts, and theater productions, students discover their talents and build confidence in their abilities. Whether performing on stage in our annual play or musical, performing in concerts, creating in the studio, or leading in worship, every experience is designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and a deeper appreciation for the beauty of God’s design. With fine arts clubs, special performances, and hands-on projects, students have endless opportunities to learn, grow, and shine in their unique creative gifts. These opportunities grow resilience in our students and prepare them to step into God’s calling for their life.
At TPCS, fine arts aren’t just a curricular or extracurricular activity—they’re an essential part of a well-rounded education that nurtures both skill and spirit.
What Students Experience in our Fine Arts Program
CHOIR
Developing Young Voices
Choir students will build foundational skills such as healthy and mature vocal production, harmonizing, singing in tune, sight-reading music, and blending their voices to create a unified, beautiful sound.
Teaching the Art in Music
Students are encouraged to bring both emotion and technical excellence to each piece. They study the deeper meaning of lyrics, apply a biblical worldview, and learn to fully express the heart of the music they perform.
Team-Building Skills
Choir classes emphasize collaboration, encouraging students to bring their unique voices together in harmony. Along the way, they develop humility, grace, and a shared commitment to creating something greater than themselves.
Fostering Relationships
The choir room is a safe and inspiring space where students are welcomed as they are—no matter their musical background. It’s a place to make mistakes, learn, grow, and build lasting relationships together.
Standard of Excellence
Students are held to a high standard through challenging, multi-part repertoire, including songs in other languages and pieces that stretch them physically with fun, upbeat choreography.
Performance Opportunities
Students have the chance to perform throughout the year in events such as Circle the State with Song, ISSMA Solo and Ensemble, and the school’s Christmas and Spring concerts.
CHAPEL & MUSIC
Weekly Christ-Centered Chapel
Each Thursday morning, Lower School students gather for an age-appropriate, Christ-centered worship service. Classes take turns leading in scripture, prayer, and song, while engaging lessons point students to Jesus in meaningful and memorable ways. Families are encouraged to attend, building community and deepening relationships as we grow in the Lord together.
Christmas and Spring Concerts
All Lower School students participate in our Christmas and Spring concerts at the end of each semester. Through a variety of musical styles, students sing and play music that celebrates the joy of the season and shares the message of Jesus with every audience.
PK-2nd Grade Music
In PK–2nd grade, students explore music through singing, dancing, playing percussion instruments, and engaging in fun listening activities. These early years focus on developing foundational musical concepts and nurturing a love for music. Songs also reinforce biblical truths, language development, and early math skills.
3rd Grade Music
In 3rd grade, students continue singing and begin learning the recorder, which introduces them to reading music on a staff and performing with an instrument. This unit builds musical skill while also fostering responsibility, perseverance, and confidence.
4th Grade Music
In 4th grade, students continue developing their musical abilities through singing and participation in an Orff mallet ensemble. Building on skills learned in 3rd grade, students expand their ability to read music and play in a multi-part group—offering a preview of the opportunities available in Middle School Band and Choir.
BAND
Collaboration, Teamwork, and Accountability
Band is collaborative by nature, teaching students patience, persistence, and responsibility. Each student learns their individual part, which combines with other instruments to form a cohesive musical whole. Band members develop strong communication and teamwork skills as they support one another’s efforts—fostering a sense of belonging and community. Plus, band is fun!
Self-Discipline and Time Management
Success in band requires discipline and strong time management. Students develop effective practice habits, learn to stay focused, and balance their responsibilities. These skills not only improve their musical ability but also carry over into other areas of life and learning.
Overcoming Challenges
Band helps students face and overcome challenges—whether it’s mastering a difficult piece or learning to handle mistakes with grace. These experiences build resilience and perseverance. Performing also gives students opportunities to develop public speaking and presentation skills.
Enhanced Cognitive Abilities
Research shows that music education strengthens cognitive functions. Band students often experience improved memory, focus, problem-solving, and spatial reasoning—skills that support academic achievement, particularly in math and reading.
Confidence and Self-Esteem
Band provides a safe space for students to express themselves and share their talents. Performing in front of an audience helps boost confidence, and positive feedback fosters a sense of pride and accomplishment, building healthy self-esteem.
Motor Skill Development
Playing an instrument and coordinating with others in a band sharpens fine and gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and overall physical dexterity.
Creativity and Expression
Above all, music is an art. Band gives students a creative outlet to express themselves, follow their imaginations, and be inspired. Music education is about more than just playing an instrument—it helps students engage deeply with their learning and get the most out of their education.
ART
A Well-Rounded Visual Arts Experience
From foundational techniques to advanced media, the art program at TPCS offers a balanced and immersive experience. Students explore core areas of visual expression including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, and more—preparing them for high school, college, and beyond.
Advanced Tools and Techniques
Our art room is equipped with high-level tools that expose students to the real-world processes used in fine art programs, including a printmaking press, silk screening, a ceramic kiln, and an airbrush spray booth. As students advance, they experience increasingly complex projects that resemble a college-level art environment.
Strong Artistic Foundations at Every Level
Beginning in 5th grade, students learn the building blocks of great art: composition, craftsmanship, creativity, and completeness. Projects are designed to teach fundamental concepts like value, contrast, gradation, and color theory in engaging, age-appropriate ways.
Opportunities for Growth and Credit
Students have the opportunity to earn dual credit through college-level art classes, gaining both artistic skill and academic achievement. With plans to expand offerings into new media like jewelry and stained glass, the program is always growing—just like our students.

Frequently Asked Questions
CHOIR
-
Yes. Our Spring and Christmas Concerts are a required part of the course. These concerts serve as a "final exam" for choir, showcasing the culmination of our work throughout the semester. Other opportunities—such as Circle the State with Song and ISSMA—are optional and offered by teacher invitation or for students who would like to explore additional choral experiences.
-
The only homework given in choir is to practice! Students may need to review lyrics to memorize them or rehearse their individual vocal parts or choreography at home.
BAND

-
Private lessons are not required; however, students typically experience greater success and enjoyment in band when they participate in private study.

Flute, oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, and percussion. After a year or two in band, bass clarinet, baritone saxophone, and tuba may also become options.
-
Our band teacher meets with students in the spring of 4th grade to introduce them to the concert band instruments—live and in person! They’ll get to hear our bands perform and will eventually get to “try on” different instruments. Our goal is to help each student choose an instrument that sets them up for long-term success.
-
Students begin learning about band towards the end of 4th grade and band officially begins in the fall of 5th grade. If your student is new to our school or missed the opportunity to join band in elementary school, I welcome conversations with families to explore options for joining the program beyond 5th grade.
